Sequence alignments were performed with the Multalin sequence analysis package (http://prodes.toulouse.inra.fr/multalin/multalin.html; Corpet et al., 1988). Amino acids matching the consensus in six of the seven aligned sequences are indicated by black shading. The "+" denotes the Thr residue (Thr138) in LeACX1A that is affected by the acx1 missense mutation. Asterisks (*) denote residues that are missing in the deduced sequence of LeACX1B.
