Members of the dynamin GTPase family function in endocytosis, vesicle trafficking, and organelle maintenance. On pages 899–913, Kang et al. report that two members of the ADL1 plant-specific dynamin-like protein family, ADL1A and ADL1E, function in de novo plasma membrane formation and maintenance during cytokinesis and cell expansion. The cover image is a SEM micrograph of the stigmatic surface of a wild-type Arabidopsis flower (face-on view). During flower morphogenesis, the stigmatic papillae expand anisotropically to form elongated cells that serve as a receptive surface for pollen grains. Polar expansion of adl1A stigmatic papillae was inhibited, and the mutant cells showed defects in cell wall formation and plasma membrane recycling. (Image by J. Busse with digital enhancement by R.
